OSHAWA, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's curling team is bringing home the bronze medal from the 2023 OUA curling championship and a berth at this year's U SPORTS national championship.
The Bold navigated a tough round robin schedule for a 2-2 record to squeeze into the playoffs in the eighth seed. After falling to Waterloo in their final round robin game, the Bold and Warriors met again in the quarter-final and this time TMU came out on top in a tight 5-4 score line.
In Sunday's semifinal the Bold squared off with Laurentian and held the Voyageurs to just three points in the sixth end and led 4-3 heading into the final frame. Laurentian managed three points in the eighth to take the victory and send the Bold into the bronze medal game.
With an opportunity to head to the national championship on the line, the Bold took on the Queen's Gaels in the bronze medal game. After giving up a steal in the first end, the Bold converted their hammer on their next two opportunities and led 4-2 after four ends. A critical steal in the seventh end kept the Bold ahead by two at 6-4 heading into the final end. There, the Bold limited Queen's scoring opportunities and limited the Gaels to just one point to earn the bronze medal.
After the event, lead
