PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's curling team finished their OUA season as a quarter-finalist at this year's championship.
The team dropped their opening two round robin matches to Waterloo and Queen's but rebounded with wins in their final two draws against Algoma and Carleton to post a 2-2 record. That record, combined with a strong shootout score, propelled the Bold into the eighth and final playoff seed.
The Bold squared off with the Laurier Golden Hawks in the quarter-final and were tied at 2-2 after two ends. Laurier then converted their hammer in the third end for a deuce, before stealing one point in the fourth end to lead TMU 5-2. After the fourth end break, the Bold generated two with the hammer to cut the lead to 5-4 but then Laurier broke the game open with four points in the sixth end, leading to hand shakes. Laurier would go on to win the gold medal.
While the team had their eyes on a better finish, first-year lead
Victor Kniat earned OUA First-Team All-Star status in his first championship which bodes well for the future of the team.
