Bold bounce back with tight win over York

TORONTO - The TMU Bold men's basketball team took to the court tonight for their final home game of the regular season and to celebrate a very special senior night.

The Bold honored six transfer graduates today, and head coach David DeAevrio spoke about each one of them.

"So we appreciate the things they did for two years and you'd wish you'd have three more, that's how I feel," said DeAverrio about senior night.

The Bold have done their part in securing a spot in the upcoming playoff season, but the York Lions, their competitor tonight were in the fight to secure their spot.

Starting the first quarter strong, the Bold made sure to keep the Lions boxed in and unable to close the gap.

David Walker stepped into a big role tonight and came through with 13 total points for the Bold.

Many fouls from the Bold led to the Lions adding to their points, making almost all of their free throws.

Coming to the end of the first the Bold struggled to get their offence into a groove, but it was only the beginning. Once the Lions got comfortable the Bold came back fighting and closed the gap, ending the first quarter with a score of 27-24 for the Lions.

Lincoln Rosebush, who has been a dedicated member of this program, played a strong game and tallied up 16 points with five rebounds and two assists.

The Lions entered the game on a five game winning streak while the Bold were looking for their first win back since a difficult weekend in Ottawa.

"We played two really defensive teams and it took us out of things that we like to do…it's about understanding how hard it is to win and play a full 40 minutes and that's where we struggle," coach DeAveiro added on coming off a difficult loss.

With a close score right before halftime, the Bold trailed the Lions, losing a few chances to some unfortunate turnovers. The Bold left the court for halftime with a score of 49-46 for the Lions.

Within the first few minutes of the third, the Bold dropped 15 points while the Lions only had two by the time the first timeout came around.

Rosebush fought hard and doubled down on the three-pointers, and this was special on his senior night.

"I have so many different emotions, I've been doing this for six years now, and I graduated from my first school and didn't get one, and it's been a long journey," Rosebush added.

The Bold picked up their offence in the third and refused to let any more turnovers take over their game.

Elijah Roye came on the court with a fierce goal of bringing the win home for the Bold. He played an intense defensive game as well, blocking many Lions shots.

In the third, the Bold racked up a total of 34 points, the most in this game, ending the third with a score of 80-61 for the Bold.

"We built off the third quarter and just planned to keep the pressure," said Roye.

The Bold were focusing on their defensive strategy at this point since the Lions made some changes to their offence and went on the attack.

With a minute left in the fourth quarter, the score was 88-86 for the Bold, and it was anyone's game.

Roye made sure to add a crucial block to his record that kept the Lions far from adding any extra baskets.

The Bold led this game throughout the fourth quarter and they finished strong with a score of 94-90.
Aaron Rhooms racked up the most points in the game with 18.

TMU is back in action on Saturday in a rematch with York on the Lions' home court to close the regular season. Tip off is set for 8 p.m.
