Bold storm past Lions in fourth to claim regular season finale victory

TORONTO - The TMU Bold men's basketball team headed north and took on the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Central division rival York Lions.

The game started off rocky for the Bold. The Lions overpowered the blue and gold to take almost an immediate lead. The first quarter seemed to whizz by with a score of 25-10 for the home side.

After a brief break, the Bold came back in the second stronger than when they started. The Bold were able to close a 15-point deficit to a five-point margin, with two minutes left in the first half.

Senior David Walker stunned the crowd by putting up 16 points in the first half, and guard Cameron Ramage worked hard to help his teammates on the court.

The third quarter started off with the Bold still trailing the red and white. The blue and gold gave their all trying to come up over the home team, but they were overpowered. First-year Gabriel Gutsmore and forward Lincoln Rosebush put up a stellar performance in the third but they weren't able to overturn the score.

A heated fourth quarter was underway when the Bold brought their toughest fight of the game. The Bold took the lead early with third-year Aaron Rhooms's jumper.

Walker and Rosebush made a deep impact in the final quarter. Walker ended the game with an astonishing 30 points. Rosebush's back-to-back points made for the Bold supporters to get out of their seats and cheer the blue and gold on.

Ahead of the Lions by four points, the Bold ended the game by holding the ball with a score of 66-62.

Last year, the Bold fell to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in a heartbreaking OUA quarter-final. This year, they're determined to bring the cup home.

"We're super hungry. We lost by two last year, we've got to get it this year. There's no ifs, ands, or buts, we've got to get it," said Walker.

The Bold head into the playoff season in second place in the OUA central division. Playoff information will be released at a later date.
