TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's volleyball team fell 3-2 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night, nearly coming a comeback from an early 2-0 set deficit.
The Bold struggled in the early sets but completely flipped the script in the third. After falling in the first set (26-24) and in the second set (25-15), they bounced back with 25-19 and 25-21 wins in the third and fourth sets, respectively. In the fifth and final set, they trailed 10-7, rallied to tie the match but ultimately fell 16-14.
"I'm really proud of how we battled tonight, said Bold head coach
Dustin Reid. "I don't think we played our best volleyball, but to come back from a tough first set loss and then obviously being down 2-0, to give ourselves a chance–I'm really proud of that."
Darcie Buchanan played a pivotal role in helping lead the comeback charge for the Bold. She finished second on the team in kills with 10 and first in blocks with two. The Ottawa native credited the TMU for providing the energy that the team needed. "The energy was good... the crowd brings everybody up–I love playing at home."
First-year middle
Rayanna Amos-Ross Fisher made her home debut with the Bold. "I was really excited [to play at home]. I really enjoyed the crowd and hearing the cheers was amazing."
The Bold will return to action on Nov. 22 for a matchup against local rivals, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Goldring Centre. Watch the contest on OUA.tv.
