TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team took on the Brock Badgers this Friday evening and came out with a big overtime win of 3-2.
Alexia Stratos started in net and recorded a total of 23 saves.
Captain
Emily Baxter continued to be vocal on the ice all night to her teammates.Â
The Bold and the Badgers traded power plays back and forth, but none were successful.
With seven minutes left in the first, the Bold started firing at the net, and
Kayla Kondo picked up the puck and netted it, scoring her first goal of the season.Â
"This week our team worked on focusing on ourselves and focusing on our identity. I think one of our key things is focusing on speed and both the goals came from good forecheck," said Kondo.
At the end of the first, the Bold led by one goal, and hoped to extend their lead in the second.Â
However, a powerplay goal for the Badgers in the third minute put them back in the running.
The Bold did not back down, kept their shot count up, and tried to keep the badgers well out of their zone.
More penalties in the second led to more power play opportunities for the Bold, and head coach
Lisa Haley recognized their strengths tonight.
"A lot of the talk tonight was just about the strengths that we can bring as a team, in terms of being able to play fast and being connected as a group, and being able to be predictable to each other, and just making it tough to come into our house and play."Â
The Badgers recorded their second goal of the game late in the second period, so the Bold were down by one heading into the third period.Â
The Bold started off the third strong offensively, trying to slip one past the Badgers goalie.Â
With seven minutes left in the third, Kondo netted the second goal for the Bold, tying it up at two.Â
Time winded down, and the score was tied at two, sending the game into overtime.Â
 In overtime, Kondo and
Megan Breen  teamed up to secure the game-winning goal.Â
"Brenner was calling for it once I was turning around, I hit her, and she went down and scored a beauty goal, so it was really nice," Kondo added.
Breen went racing down the ice and netted the final goal of the game.Â
It's the best feeling ever and doing it for your team when the team gets to win, and the team worked hard, they caused it. Kondo gave me a great pass up the middle, and everything just kind of worked out from there," Breen added.Â
The Bold will be back on the ice tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. to face the Queen Gaels. Tickets are free to students and the game can be watched on OUA.tv.
