Layne's Brace Powers Bold to 3-2 Win Over Gaels

KINGSTON, Ont. – The No. 5-ranked Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team secured a 3-2 victory over the Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon, led by two goals from Jevontae Layne and the match-winner by Justin Santos.

Layne opened the scoring in the 27th minute from the penalty spot, calmly slotting the ball into the corner after Santos drew the foul with a skillful move past his defender.

The Bold doubled their lead just before halftime, with Layne weaving through two Gaels defenders to net his second goal of the match.

Santos then added to the tally early in the second half, making it 3-0 for the Bold with a clinical finish in the 48th minute.

Despite the commanding lead, Queen's mounted a spirited comeback, scoring twice before the 77th minute to narrow the gap and forcing the Bold to hang on to the one-goal victory.

With the win, TMU extends its unbeaten streak to six matches, improving to 5-1-2. The team will now turn its attention to a matchup against the Royal Military College Paladins on Sunday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. in Kingston, Ont.
