Bold Fall Short to Gee-Gees

TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan Bold women's hockey team faced the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday evening and fell short 4-1.

In the first period, the Gee-Gees recorded an early goal at the three-minute mark, followed by another goal a minute later.

The Bold had to work quickly to close the gap. A few penalties by the Bold led to more power play chances for the Gee-Gees, but the Bold penalty kill was strong.

The Bold collected two power plays in the first period but were unsuccessful.

"We weren't ready to start, and especially that key area in front of our net, just felt like we didn't give our goalie enough opportunity to see shots and clear rebounds," said head coach Lisa Haley.

Going into the first intermission, the Bold trailed 2-0.

As the second period began, the Bold tried to capitalize on every chance and focused on keeping the puck out of their zone.

Megan Bergmanis created many scoring chances keeping the Gee-Gees goalie busy.

A quick breakaway extended the Gee-Gees lead to 3-0.

In the last few minutes of the second, the Gee-gees recorded their fourth goal of the night.

The Bold had one more chance for the final push in the third period.

Gaby Gareau netted her first goal of the season, with four minutes left in the third period.

It feels good [to score]," said Gareau. "I think it's been a long time coming, working on finishing my shots and stuff in practice so I'm glad to see that came into place in today's game."

The third period was scoreless for both sides and the Gee-Gees went home with the win.

The Bold will be back on the road at Waterloo on November 1st. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be viewed on OUA.tv.
