NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team opened their season with a dominant 86-53 win over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night.
TMU's
Jayme Foreman played an impressive game, matching her career high of 29 points with a total of seven three-pointers.
Veteran
Kaillie Hall trailed closely behind, making a statement with 20 points and last year's OUA Rookie of the Year,
Catrina Garvey, brought similar energy with 14 points of her own.
The Bold dominated the first quarter taking the lead as quickly as they could. Garvey kick-started the Bold's three-point run with a stunning shot, getting the team on the right foot. Foreman then began to shoot with confidence, scoring two back-to-back threes.
With this momentum, TMU doubled the Lakers 24-12 to finish off the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bold maintained their energy but the Lakers began to apply pressure offensively. Nipissing was able to sneak in 17 points and they were only outscored by four in the quarter. Hall and Foreman continued to take shot opportunities and ultimately kept the Bold up 45-29 at the half.
After the half, Foreman and Hall continued to take control of the game, scoring their own points while setting each other up for shooting opportunities.Â
Defensively,
Hailey Franco-DeRyck protected the net well. She ended the game with a total of 12 rebounds, eager to get her hands on the ball.
Foreman continued on her three-point run, scoring two close together once again. Working cohesively as a team the Bold secured a comfortable lead of 71-40 at the end of the third.
In the fourth quarter, Bold first-years
Magdalena Vukojev and Aislin Mcburney got to make their OUA debuts. Giving new players some minutes, the Bold still kept their lead, finishing the game with an impressive regular- season debut win, 86-53.
Continuing on their Northern Ontario campaign the Bold will take a short trip over to Sudbury where they will face off against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday, Oct. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. Catch all the action on OUA.tv.
