ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The TMU Bold men's basketball team squandered a fourth quarter lead and ultimately fell 90-89 in overtime against the Brock Badgers on Friday night.
The Bold led by eight points with two minutes to play in regulation, but the Badgers stormed back to tie the score at 78-78 with 16 seconds left on the clock. TMU had a chance to end the game on the final possession but were unable to inbound the basketball before a five-second violation was whistled. Brock missed their final field goal attempt, sending the game into extra time.
In the extra frame, TMU took an 85-82 lead after
Simon Chamberlain connected on a corner three-pointer, but Brock was quick to respond with a three-pointer of their own. The Badgers took the lead for good with 45 seconds to play when Jevon Brown hit a three-pointer after TMU's
Aaron Rhooms was hit hard at the offensive end and couldn't get back in the play.
In the final moments,
David Walker launched a three-pointer which fell short with
Aidan Wilson potting the offensive put back. Unfortunately the field goal came up one point short, as the Bold dropped the 90-89 decision.
Rhooms finished with a team-high 24 points in the losing effort.
The Bold return to action next Friday when they visit the Windsor Lancers.
