TMU struggle to find footing in shutout loss to Guelph

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team took a trip down the road to battle the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday.

The Bold, a team that has recently been showing resilience and cohesion in their game, looked to bounce back from a dynamic but heartbreaking loss to the Queen's Gaels on Friday.

Guelph got off to a hot start, scoring the first goal of the game in the first three minutes.

Lauren Griffin was the Bold's goalkeeper and they were strong on the ice, making some great saves against the Gryphons.

The Bold were unable to secure an equalizer, but after a much needed break, came back to start the second off.

After some skating up and down the ice, the game fell flat with neither team scoring. Griffin made some stellar saves, with forward Payton Kerr helping out the defensive line.

After much back and forth, the scoreless second ended with the Gryphons maintaining their lead on the Bold.

Halfway through the third, the Bold were at a disadvantage when the Gryphons gained a five on three powerplay. Bold's Brooke Michaud and Megan Breen were both called off the ice for one penalty each.

Minutes later, the visitors gained a powerplay. Captain Emily Baxter took a shot on goal but was unable to find the back of the net. Baxter is the team's leading goal scorer this season, totaling 10 goals and thirteen points.

With a lack of Bold defense, the Gryphons Captain Tiana Faccio found her opening for a second goal.

The home team would end the game on a powerplay as TMU's Mia Morano and Kerr took to the penalty box, along with Guelph's Rylee Davison.

The Bold are still on the search for a win for the first time since Jan. 6 against the York Lions. They take on the Toronto Varsity Blues on Jan. 19.
