Top first years named Eyeopener Male Rookie of the Year finalists

TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold will honour its student-athletes and their accomplishments at the TMU Bold Awards this Thursday, April 13 at The Carlu.

Over the course of the next few days, tmubold.ca will continue to highlight the finalists for all major awards as we prepare for the big night. Today, we are proud to announce the finalists for the Eyeopener Rookie of the Year award.

The Eyeopener Rookie of the Year award recognizes outstanding athletic achievement by a male student-athlete in his first year of OUA/U SPORTS competition.

The following Bold student-athletes (in alphabetical order) are the finalists for the 2022-23 Eyeopener Male Rookie of the Year award as determined through the awards selection process.

Connor Bowie – Hockey
First year forward Connor Bowie had a strong debut season with the blue and gold, playing in 26 of 27 games this season and picking up 13 points. His 10 goals ranked him fifth among all OUA rookies, while his defensive play made him one of the most reliable players in the face off circle as well as on the penalty kill. Bowie was named to the OUA West All-Rookie Team and helped the Bold to a 16 win season.

Kai Edmonds – Hockey
It was a record breaking season for Kai Edmonds in the crease as the goaltender racked up the accolades this season. Edmonds won 14 games to rank fourth in the OUA, while his 2.00 goals against average and 0.934% save percentage both ranked second across the league. His goals against average and save percentage are also new all-time single-season records at TMU. Amidst his success for the Bold, Edmonds also backstopped Team Canada to a gold medal at the FISU Winter Games in January.

Bilal Reslan – Soccer
First year midfielder Bilal Reslan showed his consistency in his first season with TMU, dressing in all 12 regular season games and tallying five points. His four assists were tied for sixth most in the OUA, showing his playmaking skills are among the league's best. He also contributed to the team's postseason run, earning an OUA silver medal and finishing fifth at the national championship.
