Outstanding Club Performance finalists announced

TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold will honour its student-athletes and their accomplishments at the TMU Bold Awards on Thursday, April 13 at The Carlu.

Over the course of the next few days, tmubold.ca will highlight the finalists for all major awards as we prepare for the big night. Today we showcase the finalists for the Outstanding Performance in Club Sport award. This award recognizes outstanding athletic achievement by a male or female student-athlete who represents a club sport at TMU. Recognition as an all-star, MVP, OUA medalist or qualifying for U SPORTS finals or OUA finals are important criteria in the nomination.

The following Bold student-athletes (in alphabetical order) are the finalists for the 2022-23 Outstanding Performance in Club Sport award as determined through the awards selection process.

Erika Dominguez – Fencing
Third year fencer Erika Dominguez captured the individual silver medal in the women's foil discipline at this year's OUA championship. Dominguez went undefeated through pool play and earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament. She reached the OUA final for the second straight season and was named an OUA all-star.

Jessica Filipcic – Curling
An OUA First-Team All-Star at the lead position, fourth year curler Jessica Filipcic had a strong season. Filipcic and the women's curling team captured the OUA bronze medal and qualified for the U SPORTS national championship where the Bold finished sixth in the country.

Felimon Henok – Track & Field
Competing at his second OUA championship, sprinter Felimon Henok ran a new school record time in the 300m on the provincial stage, finishing in 11th place. He also ran a key leg in the 4x200m relay to help TMU finish in seventh place.

Victor Kniat – Curling
Lead Victor Kniat had a strong debut season, earning OUA First-Team All-Star status at his first provincial championship. Kniat's consistent play helped the Bold into the playoff round and finish as an OUA quarter-finalist.

Matt McRae – Golf
Third year golfer Matt McRae made history this season, becoming the first TMU golfer to win an event when he struck gold at the Guelph Invitational in early October.

Dechlan Papadopoulos – Wrestling
First year wrestler Dechlan Papadopoulos made a splash in his debut season in the blue and gold, winning the bronze medal in his weight class at the OUA championship before making history of his own at the national level. Papadopoulos won bronze at the U SPORTS championship, earning TMU's first ever medal at the national stage.

Matt Tohana – Baseball
Fourth year pitcher Matt Tohana had a strong season on the mound, highlighted by his September 24 performance where he threw a perfect game against the York Lions.
