ST. CATHARINES, Ont. -
Erika Dominguez won the lone medal for Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) at the 2023 OUA Fencing championship, earning the silver medal in the foil weapon.
Dominguez, TMU's lone female fencer at this year's competition, went 6-0 in pool play and 6-0 in the seeding round to earn the No. 1 seed. She breezed through her quarter-final and semifinal, but ultimately fell 15-13 in the gold medal bout. Dominguez was trying to defend her title from 2022, but settled for the silver medal.
On the men's side, the team accumulated 89 total points to finish tied for seventh in team standings.
Ethan Haines, last year's champion in the men's foil division, was bounced in the quarter-final this year. Meanwhile,
Nathan Go had a strong performance, reaching the quarter-final in the sabre weapon before falling to the No. 5 seed.
In team relay competition, the sabre team had the best result for the Bold, finishing in fourth place. The foil team finished in sixth while the epee team wound up in eighth place.
