Game Recap: Basketball (W) |

Fourth quarter sinks Bold as Badgers snap win streak

TORONTO - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team couldn't close out the fourth quarter and dropped a 67-62 decision to the Brock Badgers on the final night of the regular season.

The Bold win streak ended at eight games after Brock outscored the home side by nine points in the final frame to take the victory.

Rachel Farwell had a team-high 14 points in the losing effort. Kaillie Hall chipped in 12 points. The pair finished as the team's lone two scorers in double digits with the team struggling to score with efficiency on the night.
"We didn't have our best shooting night tonight. To win the game, you've got to make some shots.  We didn't do that to the normal clip. Credit to Brock for adjusting some things from yesterday," said Clarke.

Despite losing their first four games of the 2022-2023 campaign, TMU finished the regular-season with a 14-8 record — good for second in the OUA Central.

The Bold will now turn their attention to the postseason. TMU is set to meet the Western Mustangs on Wednesday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in the opening round of the playoffs.

"We're just going to need to regroup," said Clarke.

The regular-season finale also served as senior night for the Bold with the program honouring five upcoming graduates in Rachel Farwell, Eleanor Jones, Tiya Misir, Sarai Bailey and Eve Uwayesu.

"They've all been so powerful and impactful in so many different ways — leaders in their own ways, whether it's scoring on the floor or as great students and leaders, growing our program and building it to tis level," said Clarke. "They're all leaving as national champions, which is pretty special."

"It's always an emotional night for me. There's lots to celebrate, but it's also sad that it's coming to the end for some of them."

Jones, a native of Ayr, Scotland, departs after spending the last four years with the team, joining the Bold in 2018.

"I think it's really exciting, because it opens up a new chapter in your life," said Jones. "It's also bitter sweet. It's really nice to hear (Carly) say what she values about each individual person."

The forward admits the National Championship run last season is something she thinks about on "the day-to-day" and now, she'll have one more opportunity at making the same run when Wednesday hits.

The full OUA postseason schedule will be released on Sunday.
