ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's basketball team hung with the No. 6 nationally ranked Brock Badgers on Friday but ultimately fell 74-71 in a tight, to-the-wire loss in the fourth quarter of the first game of a weekend double header.
TMU led in the first. Despite the scoring deficit, which was only two points by the end of the quarter, the Badgers (13) had more than doubled the Bold (5) in rebounds.
That same defensive imbalance played a large factor in the second quarter, when Brock's shooting game improved. The opposing team shot 52.4 from the field with 14 rebounds, while the Bold struggled to tally half that with seven.Â
The Badgers outscored the Bold by nine points throughout the quarter and, by the half, were leading by six.
The second half saw TMU step up. They tied the score throughout the third multiple times throughout the third, but were trailing by three going into the last quarter.
Fourth quarter saw the team struggling to regain the lead in a one-possession game. With 10.6 seconds on the clock and the Bold down three,
Simon Chamberlain attempted one last shot. It fell short, and the Badgers claimed the victory.Â
Despite the loss, point guard
Ankit Choudhary put up a game-high 26 points and tallied six rebounds.Â
The team will return home to face the Badgers again Saturday evening at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, their last game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
