Rhooms, Walker lead bold over divisional foe Marauders

TORONTO - The home-slated unbeaten run over the McMaster Marauders continued for the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's basketball squad earlier tonight as the group picked up an 83-78 win over the Hamilton side.

Aaron Rhooms and David Walker were the heartbeat of TMU's offence in the winning cause, scoring 25 and 22 points, respectively, to cap off a wild offensive outing for the home side.

"Our games compliment each other. We are definitely a force to be reckoned with after tonight," mentioned Rhooms following the match.

Both teams found offensive success between their top scorers during the opening half of the Saturday night affair, as dynamic duos filled the scoresheet through and through.

McMaster's powerful pair of Mychael Paulo and Mike Demagus highlighted the visitors' attack in the opening quarters of the match, combining for over half the points stemming from the black and red.

Paulo put the Marauders into gear in the early stages of the initial frame and contributed a pair of jumpers from beyond the arc to emphasize his side's dominant start.

Similar scoring sprouted from the opposite end of the court as well, with Ankit Choudhary matching the point totals of his thriving opposition. Walker would lend the third-year an extra set of hands in the offensive production for the blue and gold, heating up with a pair of three-point tallies and helping the blue and gold jump to their first lead of the match.

Walker's eleven-point performance in the second quarter helped the Bold close in on a marginal halftime lead, as well as rock the boat of their scrappy opposition. The third-year's domination over McMaster flooded the third stanza as well, with dunks becoming the latest weapon of choice for one of the Bold's leading scorers.

A pair of polarizing slams powered the home side to a masterful quarter that helped carry TMU closer to the finish line. Amidst the mayhem, the offensive game of Rhooms began to pick up traction and help bury the Marauders on the scoreboard.

"It was just a belief in our system and a belief in each other. We were able to set the bar high," said Rhooms.

The sophomore followed up his eleven-point performance in the penultimate frame by tacking on nine more points to close out the win for TMU. Despite heading into the final frame with a lead, the Bold allowed McMaster to ring off nine consecutive points to bring the game within three.

The defence for the Bold would bend but fail to break in the dying seconds of the quarter as Rhooms put back the last layup of the match to secure the season split over the Marauders.

"It's a total team win. Those guys are great scorers but we don't win without the team," said head coach of the Bold, David DeAveiro.

The group will be back in action next Friday when they pay a visit to the Brock Badgers. Tip off is set for 8:00 pm.
