Bold stay unbeaten, extend win streak to eight

TORONTO - The TMU Bold women's basketball took on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks this Saturday on home court hoping to extend their win streak to eight.

The Bold currently leads the Central division in the OUA standings, while the Ridgebacks are last in the East division.

Right away the Bold took control of the game and got the first few points, but the Ridgebacks fought back hard and took the lead in the first quarter.

Head coach Carly Clarke made a few adjustments in the lineup, and the Bold slowly caught up.

The first quarter came to an end with a close score of 20-16 for the Ridgebacks.

The Bold had some ground to cover going into the second quarter, trying to overtake the Ridgebacks on the scoreboard.

"We wanted to clean up defensively, and we made some adjustments in the second quarter and started to lock in there," said Clarke.

Jayme Foreman charged towards the net then scored back-to-back three-point jump shots, giving the Bold the lead.

Veteran player Kaillie Hall as a point guard helped her team by opening more shooting chances for her team.

"Playing the point guard role is super valuable, and it's just about getting us into the offence," Hall commented.

A key factor to the Bold's recent success is their new class of recruits. Players like Catrina Garvey and Hailey Franco-DeRyck have left their mark on this team, bringing more points and opportunities in.

Both teams went back and forth for the majority of the second but finally, the Bold took the lead and went into halftime with a score of 43-37.

Into the third, the Bold wanted to extend that scoring gap, and Foreman made sure of it, leading the team in points with 29.

"I think we're all a really strong shooting team, and the biggest strength is just getting all those big shots," said Foreman.

Hall continued to be a vocal team player, guiding them on the court in between plays. She also led the team in free throws, sinking the ball on every single one on Saturday.

The end of the third was 66-47 which was a big jump for the Bold. They were able to take back control of the game and make it harder for the Ridgebacks to catch up in the final quarter.

The Ridgebacks started to make more plays pushing back against the Bold, and suddenly it was a six-point game.

A lot was on the line for the Bold, hoping to keep their win streak alive.

Garvey, who's been consistent all season, brought her A-game once again and recorded 17 points.

"We talked about trying to get to the basket a little bit more when the shots weren't falling, just to see some go through and get ourselves within that line," added Clarke.

After a difficult game, the Bold held a strong lead and secured the win with a score of 89-74 to pick up their eighth win of the season in a row.

The Bold are back in action next week for a pair of games before the winter break.
