Division leading Badgers get best of Bold

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University Bold men's hockey team battled on foreign ice in a heartbreaking 6-3 loss against the Brock Badgers on Friday night.

The team fought hard in a nail-biting game that kept the crowd at the edge of their seats.

The game started off with some strong plays from both ends. The Bold's Will Sirman had the team's best chance early on, but couldn't find the net in this game. The Badgers were quick to defend their home, but neither team secured a goal early on.

After a scoreless first, the Badgers were the ones to claim the first goal, six minutes into the second stanza. This would be the first of many goals for both teams.

Midway through the game, the blue and gold's Kevin Gursoy struck the Badgers hard when his goal evened out the score. Both teams had an even score and it was anyone's game.

Less than a minute after the first, forward Kyle Bollers stunned the crowd when he pulled off a Michigan goal. He balanced the puck on his stick and scooped it into the opposing team's goal. The tally brings Bollers's total goal count this season to 11, and it was arguably the player's most memorable goal thus far.

Evening out the score again, it was the Badgers who made that happen. The teams ended the second period in a 2-2 score, setting up a tension-filled third period.

The Badgers took the first goal in the third, but the Bold struck right back. Mississauga's Will Portokalis scored to tie the game at 3-3 in what would end up being the squad's last goal of the night.

The Badgers went on to score another three goals, one into an empty net.

The third period packed a punch with tensions running high. Nearing the end of the game several tussles broke out on ice between the red and white and blue and gold. It was clear that the Bold were frustrated at the final buzzer.

An unfortunate ending to tonight's game, the Bold look ahead to play a double-header against the Lakehead Thunderwolves next week on home ice. These are the team's last two games before they head into the holiday break.
