Game Recap: Basketball (M) | | Mario Russo

Bold use strong fourth quarter to rally past Varsity Blues

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's basketball squad rallied off 29 points in Saturday's fourth quarter to rally past the University of Toronto (UofT) Varsity Blues in a 100-93 point victory.

Fifth-year forward Lincoln Rosebush tabbed a season-high 20 points to help guide the Bold towards a second-straight victory over the Varsity Blues on Saturday. Simon Chamberlain added 18 points of his own towards TMU's score to help secure the win.

"I can't explain in words how happy I am of my group tonight. You saw everybody step up [and] contribute," said head coach of the Bold David DeAveiro following the game.

The Bold overwhelmed their rivals on the offensive side of the ball to grab a nine-point lead after two quarters of play. Aaron Rhooms led the charge for the home side in Saturday's initial half, shooting just under 72% from the field and dropping a team-leading 16 points by the end of the middle quarter.

Complimenting TMU's early success was the team's ability to land nearly 60% of their attempts from beyond the arc. The home side rallied off nine triples by the midway mark of the contest, four of which coming within a 2:36 span to help pull TMU towards a strong finish to the opening quarter.

UofT would show some bite in the penultimate frame and head into the fourth and final quarter leading the Bold in a one-possession game. Fouls played a crucial part in dictating the changing of the guard in the third quarter, with the Bold sending the Varsity Blues to the free-throw line nine times and watching just one shot miss the mark.

Noah Ngamba also helped the visitors climb back into the contest, landing a pair of three's and nine points to lead the Bold by three at the break.

As the Bold starred down adversity heading into the fourth, the group rallied together to flip the scoreboard entirely on its head and take a consecutive victory over UofT. Rosebush capped off the rivalry win with a nine-point final quarter that included a pair of assists that both tied, and put the Bold into the lead.

"I am happy for Lincoln. He struggled a little bit early but he's starting to find his way," praised DeAveiro of his veteran forward. "A key part of our team is being able to run our offense in the fourth," added Chamberlain - a feat the team accomplished by posting their second-highest point total in the final frame.

With today's win, the Bold improve to 4-2 on the season and enter the second-last week of the fall semester winners of two straight. They will get set to face off with the McMaster Marauders next Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
