Game Recap: Basketball (W) | | Mario Russo

Bold keep rolling with lopsided win over Varsity Blues

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball squad steamrolled past the University of Toronto (UofT) Varsity Blues on Wednesday night, taking the game 66-47 and extending their unbeaten run to open up the season.

Fourth-year guard Kaillie Hall led the way for the visitors with a season-high 18 points in the Bold's lopsided win.

Jayme Foreman and Catrina Garvey touched double-digits in the point category for the fourth and second time respectively this season, the former going 8 for 9 from the free-throw line in the winning effort.

Both teams got off to an exceptionally slow start to Wednesday's game as missed opportunities began to mount themselves atop the struggling offensive units early on. TMU were able to break the scoreless deadlock just under three minutes into the contest with first-year forward Corrynn Parker landing a layup to personify a sense of relief for the undefeated visitors.

From thereon out, the offense picked up for the Bold and Varsity Blues, with nobody benefiting more than TMU's Garvey. The first-year would finish the opening frame with a team-leading nine points to help combat the Varsity Blues' success from beyond the arc and take a Bold lead into the second quarter.

UofT appeared to have dug themselves out from under the Bold in the early stages of the middle frame, landing consecutive threes to pull within just a point of the blue and gold with plenty of the quarter left to play.

Feeling the added heat from the home side, the Bold turned on the jets and rang off 13 unanswered points - seven of which coming from the free-throw line - to help bury the Varsity Blues heading into halftime.

After exploding for a season-high 27 points in the Bold's win over the Brock Badgers on Saturday, Foreman was nearly perfect from the free-throw line on Wednesday through two quarters of play, going 6 for 7 and helping TMU pile things on top of UofT.

The Bold added another dominant frame to their nightly total following the half, outsourcing the Varsity Blues 16-6 in the third quarter to help secure their fifth victory of the season.

Hall rallied off six consecutive points in the third to suck all the life from the home side and build a lead the Varsity Blues would be unable to hold a candle to.

With the win, the Bold snapped a two-game losing skid to the Varsity Blues - a streak that started in November of 2022. The group will now look to replicate their midweek success on Saturday when they host UofT at 12:00 p.m.
