TORONTO - Continuing the doubleheader strong, the TMU Bold men's soccer team is coming off a great win against Ontario Tech. On Sunday, they took on the Laurentian Voyageurs, looking to secure another win.
Right off the bat, in the fifth minute, Tristan Marshall received a kick from Bilal Reslan and opened the scoring for the Bold. Reslan set up many great scoring chances for the team throughout the game.
In the 14th minute, first-year Josiah Lorray scored his second goal of the season, tucking it in from the right wing.
The Voyageurs, who have a national title under their belt, are difficult to play. Despite this reputation, they struggled to keep possession of the ball, as the Bold forced them into their zone.
Zak Abdi has been on the attack from the beginning, and all the pressure paid off, in the 29th minute when he put the Bold in a 3-0 lead.
The Bold's roster dealt with many injuries this week, causing significant changes in the line, but the line-up did not disappoint, giving 100% all 90 minutes.
"I can close my eyes and choose any players from a bunch of them," said head coach Filip Prostran.
Obrad Bejatovic started in the net for today, and he had no issues blocking shots with a strong defense line in front of him.
A killer dive by Sam Rankin stopped the Voyageurs from making it close to the net, the first-year defender, always seems to be in the right spot.
Being his first year on the team, "I know a lot of the players from my old club, as well as Coach Prostran so it's been an easy transition," said Rankin
The first half showed a lot of tension between the two teams, with Laurentian down by three, they came back in the second ready for a battle.
Even though the second half proved to be more difficult, the Bold never backed down.
Regardless of the game, coach Prostran stays confident in his team that they'll finish strong.
The 4th goal was an easy finish for U-Sports Player of the Year Chris Campoli. Followed by two back-to-back goals by Karamvir Mehmi.
The Bold is well aware that the game isn't over til that final whistle, and they continue to push through.
Especially Mauro Lulli who did everything he could to score. Taking shot after shot, Lulli never gave up, until he conquered a beautiful goal to finish the game.
With minutes left, the hope was to hold off the Voyageurs and they did exactly that. Bringing the game to an end with a final score of 7-1.
With playoffs right around the corner, and many players injured, "I'm not too concerned about it because our therapy staff is excellent and I think we'll have the majority of the guys ready for the most important game- playoffs," said Prostran
The team celebrates a victorious weekend as they prepare for a difficult match against Carleton University next Saturday.
