Brace from Campoli splits score against Ravens in Ottawa

OTTAWA - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team leveled out the score while taking on the Carleton Ravens in the nation's capital.

The Bold sat in third place entering the contest and the team fought hard to secure a tie to ensure their OUA playoffs position.

The Ravens are ranked first in the Ontario University Athletics East division and remain undefeated. They received their first tie game of the season against the visiting Bold.

The Bold struggled to get situated on foreign turf in the opening minutes. Bold goalkeeper Obrad Bejatovic made crucial back to back saves to stop the Ravens' attempts at goal.

Midfielder Juan Pablo Delgadillo was given the first caution of the game, receiving a yellow card in the 2nd minute of play.

It was an early goal for the Ravens that pressured the Bold. Still trying to get some lead, the visitors worked together tirelessly to put up a goal.

The Ravens were quick to double their lead in the 30th minute over the Bold as Luca Piccioli celebrated his goal with the ball boys and his team on the sidelines.

A good effort at goal was called offside for third-year Zakaria Abdi. The team knew what was at stake and was warming up the cold Ottawa weather for a blue and gold goal.

The Bold's offensive weapon, Chris Campoli, ran up the field and kicked the ball into the back of the home team's net in the 42md minute; a great start for the team but they knew one goal wasn't enough.

After a 15 minute break, the teams were back to battle out the last 45 minutes of the game.

Both teams worked hard to secure another goal, but it wasn't until the 90th minute when Campoli struck again for the Bold. The team erupted in cheers, securing a tie game against the nationally ranked Ravens.

With the home team eager to take the lead, a goal attempt from the Ravens was tactically saved from Bejatovic, ending the Ravens streak of victories.

The Bold and Ravens secured one point each in the chilly 90-minute game.

Coming home, the Bold remain in third position in the OUA East division. They'll battle out their last two games of the regular season at home, hoping to climb up the ladder to secure a home playoff game.

The squad will battle the RMC Paladins on Oct. 21st with kickoff set for 3 p.m at Downsview.
