Bold overcome tricky start, claim victory over Paladins

TORONTO - It was a strong start for the TMU Bold on a double-header weekend facing the RMC Paladins first. The Bold head into weekend action playing their last two games to inevitably move into the playoffs next week.

As the Bold prepare for playoffs, these last few games are crucial to see what the team needs to look like heading into playoffs.

In the past, the matchups between the Bold and the Paladins have been an easy win for the Bold, but today was a lot more difficult.

The first half did not go the way the Bold wanted it to. They played a more defensive game but a penalty kick gave the Paladins the first lead followed by another goal too quick to save, but that only fueled the Bold to push back harder.

"We weren't playing to our full potential, and we were too relaxed on the ball," said Josiah Lorray about the first half.

Lorray was a significant player on Saturday, using the wing to open plays and keep the ball in the Paladins' zone, and his effort paid off in the 45th minute opening the scoring for the Bold.

"We played the ball faster, added three more strikers up top, and just attacked more," added Lorray.

The second half came with the expectation to catch up and Chris Campoli met that by tying up the game.

Campoli continued to put up numbers, racking up five shots on goal and two goals for the Bold on Saturday.

"The mindset was to go out and fight and work hard for each other, and play the way we know how to play," said Campoli.

A multi-goal game kept both teams on their toes. RMC Paladins' goalkeeper made seven saves, and the results could have gone either way.

Justin Santos, back on the field for the first time since September due to injury, assisted on Mauro Lulli's tally for the third goal for the Bold. It stands as Lulli's fourth goal of the season.

The RMC felt their chances slipping away as the Bold got the fourth goal of the game, and it was all about finishing strong for the Bold.

The Bold stayed focused throughout and did not back away from the pressure, securing their seventh win of the season. The team now prepares to take on the Trent Excalibur on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. while honouring the graduating players for senior day.
