OSHAWA, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon, dropping the OUA quarter-final to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in penalty kicks.
The Ridgebacks opened the scoring just six minutes into the game on a set piece conversion from a corner.
TMU tied the match at 1-1 just before halftime as
Chris Campoli fired a shot on the run that found the back of the net.
The Bold played a stronger second half and kept the pressure on, forcing the Ridgebacks into their zone. As the game progressed, the intensity of who would score next had fans on the edge of their seats.
Both teams had scoring opportunities, but the Bold had better luck getting through the Ridgebacks defence. Kevon Grant, the Ridgebacks goalkeeper, made it hard for the Bold to get the ball to the back of the net.
Neither team could add a goal in regulation or extra time.
The Ridgebacks scored on all five of their penalty kicks, while TMU could find the back of the net just four times.
It was a disappointing end to the season for the Bold, who will now look to build off the experience and come back next season stronger than ever.
