Bold top Mustangs for historic win for coach Duco

LONDON, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team picked up a 5-2 victory on Wednesday night over the Western Mustangs, giving head coach Johnny Duco his 107th career victory to make him the all-time leader in TMU men's hockey history.

The Bold and the Mustangs have been going back and forth for years, and for the first time this season, they faced off against each other at Thompson Arena.

The Mustangs were winless so far in the season and both the Bold and the Mustangs were hungry for the win.

Early on, Carson Gallagher netted his second goal of the season with an assist pass from Cole Cameron, giving the Bold the lead.

Two Bold and two Mustangs penalties with just eight minutes left in the first gave both teams a chance to score. Both teams could not make anything of their power play opportunities, and this was consistent throughout the night.

Kai Edmonds racked up a total of 40 saves against 42 shots, and one of his biggest saves in the second came against right winger Christian Aiello.

The Bold continued to close in on the Mustangs, staying on the offence and shutting down any charges. The Bold was slowly building towards a win, taking away any chance from the Mustangs.

Western was looking to add a power play goal in the 14th minute of the second but the Bold were not allowing it. Heading off the ice for the second intermission the Mustangs were starting to feel the heat.

Daniil Grigorev wasted no time and immediately took a shot that goaltender Dylan Myskiw saved, but it paid off later in the second as he found the back of the net to extend TMU's lead.

In the third, the Bold held strong despite the tough efforts made by the Mustangs during a five-on-three power play. In previous games, these teams would rack up multiple penalties in a period, and today was no different.

Will Sirman, playing in his first regular season game with the Bold, put the Bold into a three goal lead, while Kyle Bollers made it four.

The Mustangs reached for the win scoring twice in the last few minutes, but it wasn't enough. Jaden Condotta secured his first goal of the season into the empty net in the final seconds of play.

The Bold celebrated the win and look forward to taking on the Royal Military College Paladins next week.
