TORONTO — Jayme Foreman had a career-high 27 points for the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team, as they defeated the Western Mustangs 95-65 on Saturday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
14 of Foreman's 27 came in the second-quarter — a quarter that seen Foreman connect on four of her five attempts from beyond-the arc. She shot 10-17 from the field, including 7-12 from three.
"She's always shot ready — that's what she does. She's a shot maker. I'm just happy to see her shooting it confidently," said Bold head coach Carly Clarke.
It was a hot shooting night as a whole for the Bold who connected on 51.4 per cent of their attempts from long-range.
Rachel Farwell joined Foreman with a 20+ point effort, recording 23 points on 9-22 shooting.
"It's refreshing forsure," said Farwell. "It's always nice to have a couple drop and to feel the momentum a little bit.
"We've had some pretty hot shooting games, but when your two best shooters and two of the best shooters in the country each get really great looks, you're pretty happy with that. They drill them," said Clarke.
A dominant first-quarter for TMU, that seen Clarke rely early and often on a high-octane full press, paced the squad throughout the opening 10 minutes. TMU hopped out to a 27-16 lead — a lead they would never relinquish.
"It was a great to come out and get some scores. It didn't feel like we had full control but we put the ball in the basket and it certainly helped," said Clarke.
The victory marked nine wins in the last 12 games for the Bold, who improved their record to 9-7 on the season. The win also marked a weekend sweep for TMU after taking care of business against the Windsor Lancers last night.
"We came out strong yesterday and strong again today — this is how we have to keep coming out every single game," said Foreman.
Next up for the Bold is a weekend road trip to Thunder Bay, Ont. As they take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday and Saturday night.Â
"Their results and their record may not look stellar right now, but it's always tough to play up there. They're playing hard and getting better," said Clarke.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. both nights. All the action can be seen on OUA.tv.
"We're getting hungry heading into the final stretch. We got some momentum going. We're continuing to build as team and develop individuals. So honestly, we're really excited. We're going to keep working on ourselves and try to get better every day, then make a run in the playoffs and see what can happen," said Farwell.
