Bold win streak stopped at five with loss to Gee-Gees

TORONTO — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's basketball team fell 86-72 to the No. 3 nationally ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees Friday night, ending their win streak at five games.

Aaron Rhooms opened the scoring and the Bold fed off of the early lead, going on an 11-2 run before Ottawa was forced into a timeout only three minutes in. Unfortunately, the Gee-Gee's managed to catch up and Ottawa took the lead, shooting 91.7 per cent from the field in the first.

"I thought we moved the ball well early on. After they called the timeout, we got away from our game defensively," head coach Dave DeAveiro said. "I don't know if they can play any better than they did tonight, but I know we can."

The Bold kept it tight in the second quarter, however. Coming back from a nine-point deficit, Mo Ndiaye, who returned to the roster for the winter term, tied the game up at 42-42 halfway through the second but ended the first half trailing by six.

The Gee-Gee's outscored TMU in the second half. The opposing team maintained a double-digit lead throughout the third.

In the last quarter though, the Bold picked it back up — and steals and points in the paint put the team back in the game, turning a twelve-point game into a six-point one. Unfortunately, Ottawa tightened their control of the ball and took the win.

Lincoln Rosebush attributed the loss, ultimately, to defensive chemistry.

"We knew what they wanted to do, get us in rotations and put three's up and they did that," he added. "We're going to have to watch the film and figure it out.

The team will take to the court Saturday to play the Carleton Ravens. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
