WATERLOO, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team's three-game win streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon after a 70-63 loss to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.
TMU held a 50-42 lead after three quarters, but Laurier outscored the visitors 28-13 in the fourth to pick up the win.
Brittyn Graves three-pointer with 1:11 remaining in the fourth-quarter gave the Golden Hawks a two-point lead — a lead they would never relinquish. Laurier closed the game on an 8-0 run, holding TMU to just four points in the final 4:30 of the game.
As mentioned, the loss snapped the Bold's three-game win streak, which dated back to Dec. 3 and was just the team's second loss in the last eight games after the defending national champions began the season with four-straight losses.
Rachel Farwell and Jayme Foreman led the way for the Bold, who were without Haley Fedick and Kait Nichols. Farwell and Foreman combined for 29 of the team's 63. Farwell had a team-high 15 points and 13 boards.Â
Fifth-year guard Eve Uwayesu made her return to the team's lineup after being out since the team's season opener on Nov. 5. Uwayesu made an instant impact in her return, registering 13 points and four assists. Two of her 13 came on a buzzer-beating lay-up on the final play of the first half, as she raced down the length of the court, got to the rim and finished off the glass to bring the Bold within four at halftime.

After TMU closed the second-quarter on a 7-0 run, the momentum carried over into the second half. The Bold began the frame by scoring 9 of the first 11 points and ultimately, would go on to outscore the Golden Hawks 23-11 in the third to take a 12-point lead.
Unfortunately for the Bold, the fourth-quarter was a different story, as the Golden Hawks took over and shot 77.9 per cent in the frame, helping them pick up the win and move to 5-9 on the season.
Up next for TMU is a pair of clashes against two of the conference's best next weekend. The Bold will play host to the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the Carleton Ravens on Friday and Saturday at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. At press time, the Gee Gees are undefeated with an 11-0 record, while the crosstown rivals are 10-2, trailing Ottawa in the OUA East. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
