Ridgebacks score three straight to defeat Bold

TORONTO - The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks put together a memorable second half earlier this evening to stun the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey squad, scoring three unanswered goals to extend the Bold's losing streak to three straight games.

The Ridgebacks timely offence roared to life midway through the second period, scoring goals just 37 seconds apart in the 3-2 win.

Head coach of the Bold Lisa Haley believes the root of the nightly problem rested in the eight TMU penalties that she believes continuously stood as the "momentum killer" for the home side throughout the match.

A dream start paved the way for the blue and gold in the early makings of their Friday night tilt with the visiting Ridgebacks. In a similar stance to their overtime loss the night before, TMU jumped to the scoreboard just minutes into the match and off the diligent play of forward Gaby Gareau, nonetheless.

The first-year followed up her crisp breakaway pass to Britni Yammine by placing her teammate's rebound into the back of the net for her third tally of the season.

"She got the job done early…I thought she had a strong game for us tonight," said Haley.

On the other end of the puck, goaltender Lauren Griffin comfortably steered aside all 12 of the Ridgebacks shots to send the Bold into the first intermission a goal to the good.

With a dominant frame already in the books, the Bold opened up the middle stanza just as hot and inked the scoresheet nearly as fast.

Third-year defender Abby DeCorby used TMU's first power play of the period to her advantage, unleashing a laser from the blue line to record her first goal of the campaign in style.

"She's got a freaking canon for a shot," said the Bold bench boss, hoping the initial tally is "just the first of many for her."

DeCorby was ecstatic after notching the power play marker, mentioning how it "couldn't have come at a better time."

The momentum would soon swing the way of the visitors, however, with Ontario Tech defusing their two-goal deficit in just 37 seconds to stun the Bold midway through the frame.

Julia Jackson opened up the short-lived floodgates for the Ridgebacks, netting her third of the season on the power play and injecting some life in the legs of the road side.

The message would be quickly received by Jackson's teammate Melisa Ardanaz who effectively turned the screw from just below the hash marks to enthusiastically even up the score.

The free fall for the Bold would spill into the early stages of the final frame, with the Ridgebacks finding timely life in company of the extra skater.

With her body positioned on the perimeter of the Bold goal, defender Alyssa Denney added another tally to her side's special teams unit, making easy work of the go-ahead goal to complete the comeback for the Oshawa side.

The loss snapped the Bold's five-game unbeaten run over the Ridgebacks on home soil. The defeat also pushed the Bold's bid for a 2023 win yet another game after heading into the break winners of four consecutive games.

The group will have a shot at redemption next Wednesday when they pay a visit to Guelph to take on the Gryphons. Puck drop is set for 7:30.
