Voyageurs roll into town for first round playoff tilt with Rams

TORONTO - It's officially playoff season, and the Rams men's basketball team is gearing up to host the first round against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Wednesday night.

With eight wins and six losses, the team placed fourth at the end of the regular season, gaining home court advantage to play the fifth place team at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

This will be the third consecutive matchup between the Voyageurs and the Rams. Laurentian was the team's last opponent of the regular season, whom they swept in a weekend doubleheader earlier this month.

The Rams will only have to topple the Voyageurs one more time to qualify for Round Two of OUA playoffs, and with the school's undefeated (10-0) win streak at home against Laurentian, the chances look good.

A top-10 scoring team in the league, the Rams are third in the league in shooting percentage, and second in three-point percentage.

Individually, first-year forward Aaron Rhooms ranks in the OUA top 10 in shooting, while point guard Ankit Choudhary comes in at 28th.

The Rams' offensive abilities should give them a leg up in the postseason, but one area they need to lock in ahead of Wednesday's game is defence.

Turnovers are a weak spot for the team, among other defensive aspects of the game that head coach David DeAveiro has been working on with the Rams all year.

It's now or never for the team to put their training to practice against the Voyageurs.

Tip-off for Wednesday's playoff game is scheduled for 7 p.m., and you can purchase/reserve tickets online or stream the game at home at OUA.tv.
