Rams squander early lead, fall to Gee-Gees in Ottawa

OTTAWA - Despite a dominant start and a hefty first quarter lead, the Rams fell 70-62 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees Friday night at Montpetit Hall.

The Rams came out aggressive in the first quarter, moving quickly on the court and taking every opportunity at the net. Hitting four of six shots from downtown and putting up 20 points to Ottawa's eight, this looked like the best first quarter the team had played all season. By the ten-minute mark, the Rams were leading by 12.

Three early fouls in the next frame spoiled the Rams run, and the Gee-Gees cut down the lead to eight points immediately. The second quarter called for the team to show up defensively, and they put to practice what they'd worked on all season. A confident block by Nick Hamilton and a few other plays kept the Rams in the lead at the half, with Ottawa behind by seven.

The Gee-Gees played their best in the third. While the Rams tried to tame the opponent's run, Ottawa outscored them 22-13 to take a two-point lead before the fourth quarter.

Ankit Choudhary found his rhythm in the final quarter, hitting a three right off the bat and stealing a loose ball from Ottawa to force a layup. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to regain the lead, and the Gee-Gees took the win at the end of the night.

The Rams will be looking to tie the doubleheader when they play Ottawa again tomorrow. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m., and you can tune in at OUA.tv.
