Bouzide's hat-trick gives Rams crucial point in overtime loss to Nipissing

NORTH BAY - Savannah Bouzide tied the game with just nine seconds left to complete her hat-trick as the Rams fell 5-4 in overtime on Wednesday evening to the Nipissing Lakers.

Madison Lalonde assisted on every "Bouzie" goal, ending the night with three assists. Bouzide also added an assist on a goal from Lauren Nicholson, while defender Julie Patricio picked up a pair of assists.

Rachel Seeley was instrumental as the Rams came back late in the third after being down 4-2. The netminder made 33 saves against the Lakers and their top offensive lineup.

With five minutes to go in the first, a clearance from the Rams zone reached Lalonde at the blueline. The captain drew in the Laker defender before sending it cross-ice to Bouzide. The playmaker went in alone and waited out Nipissing's Chloe Marshall before sliding it in on a move to the forehand.

Just two minutes into the second, a cycle behind the Nipissing net found Lalonde again. She quickly shoveled it to an open Bouzide in the slot, who one-timed it to put the Rams up a pair.

Four unanswered tallies from the Lakers put them up 4-2 after 40.

Marilyn Fortin opened Nipissing's scoring with a trickling shot from the point that just got by Seeley. After the Rams failed to convert on another power play, Maria Dominico walked in and tied it up. Their surge of momentum continued when Jetta Derenoski scored a pair off two quick plays.

After a sleepy third period, the Rams netted two goals with under two minutes to go. Both markers came on the power play with Seeley pulled to the bench. First, Nicholson made it 4-3 with a wrister from the point. Then, with just nine seconds to go, another nifty pass from Lalonde found Bouzide off a scramble, and the game was sent to overtime at 4-4.

Nicholson got a good shot away in overtime, but a turnover at the blueline sprung OUA leading scorer Brianna Gaffney on a breakaway. She made no mistake on Nipissing's 38th shot of the game to take it 5-4.

Bouzide's hat-trick tonight marked her first three OUA goals as the play-maker will look to bring that momentum back home on Saturday afternoon. Nipissing visits Mattamy Home Ice for a rematch, with puck drop at 4:00 p.m.

Saturday also marks the team's annual Do it for Daron (DIFD) game for youth mental health. Anyone who attends the game can purchase a puck for the Chuck-a-Puck contest with proceeds going towards their organization.
