Game Recap: Basketball (W) | | Joe Mastromatteo

Toronto sweep completed as Rams earn 21 point win

TORONTO - After a blowout win on home court earlier in the week, the Rams women's basketball team doubled up on the Toronto Varsity Blues in a 78-57 win Saturday afternoon.

Mikaela Dodig led the way with 21 points while grabbing five rebounds and a pair of assists. Stefanija Mrvaljevic commanded the glass with seven rebounds - all on the offensive glass - while adding 11 points herself.

Nearly every Rams starter had multiple steals as the Blues sacrificed 35 points off of 29 turnovers.

Unlike the Rams' commanding 20-0 start on Wednesday night, Toronto didn't back down and forced the Rams to be sharp in the first quarter. Six early points from Jama Bin-Edward and another five from Mrvaljevic helped the Rams maintain a slim 22-19 lead early on.

Before halftime, open lanes in the Rams' paint and a spread out offence from the blue and gold saw both sides put up points. Separated by just two in second quarter scoring, the Rams stayed afloat at 39-34 at the half.

The Rams attacked the rim in the third quarter and started to pull away, working up to a 14-point lead. Dodig found the net off of rebounds or from beyond the arc to pad the Rams' lead.

Mrvaljevic continued to snatch rebounds as the Rams entered the fourth quarter up 60-45. As turnovers for Toronto continued to add up, the Rams pulled away and took their 10th win in a row comfortably.

The Ottawa Gee-Gees await the surging Rams as they host the blue and gold for a pair of games next week in the nation's capital.
