Rams roll past Blues in 45 point win

TORONTO - The Rams had another dominant showing at home on Wednesday night, sealing a 98-53 win against the Toronto Varsity Blues.

With the help of guard Marin Scotten's 27 points, the Rams scored a season high of 98 on their way to their ninth straight win.

The Rams are yet to lose a first quarter this season, and tonight was no different as they had their strongest opening 10 minutes and went up 29-10. Notably, the Rams opened up the game going up 20-0 halfway through the quarter. Scoring 13 points off turnovers and forcing six turnovers, the Rams once again asserted their dominance in the opening moments of the game and set the tone.

"They turn it on when it's go-time," said Rams head coach Carly Clarke about her team's strength in the first quarter. "I think it's a credit to their mental preparation and their level of competitiveness."

Rams forward Rachel Farwell scored a game-high of 10 points in the first quarter, and shared a similar sentiment to Clarke, saying, "our starting lineup has a lot of threats and we know what our goals are and what we're looking for to start every game."

While past games have seen their opponents claw back in the second quarter, the Rams simply grew their lead tonight as they went up 51-18 after the first half, allowing just eight points in the second.

The Rams continued to overwhelm the Blues in the third and fourth quarter, forcing 11 turnovers in the second half and showing why they have the number one defence in the OUA.

"To go with athleticism, we have an incredibly intelligent team," said Clarke on what makes the defence work so well. "They've bought into our system and have good clarity on what we're trying to do."

In addition to the starting five's impressive performance, the Rams also had 43 points off the bench, led by Tiya Misir who netted a career-high 10 points on the night.

With a final score of 98-53, the Rams were just five points behind their program record of 103 points scored in a game.

The Rams and Blues will be back at it on Saturday at Toronto's Goldring Centre for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
