Game Recap: Basketball (M) | | Christina Flores-Chan

Rams earn sixth straight win with 84-79 win at home over Toronto

TORONTO - The Mattamy Athletic Centre was loud and full on Wednesday as the Rams men's basketball team won 84-79 against the Toronto Varsity Blues. The game was tight throughout three quarters, until the Rams used the energy from the crowd to propel themselves into the lead in the last few minutes. The team now stands in third place in the league on a six-game winning streak.

Toronto pushed pressure and aggression onto the court from the get-go. While Rams Liam O'Leary-Orange opened the scoring, the Blues were quick to respond, taking the lead and making the Rams fight through the first quarter, who went 0-4 on three-pointers.

The second saw more excitement on the Rams end. About halfway through, point guard Ankit Choudhary stole the ball from a loose Toronto play and passed it to Mouhamed Ndiaye, who tipped it into the basket. The half ended with Choudhary gunning for the net, and then taking a step back to land a shot and tie the game at 39 points each.

The Blues came back hungrier in the third and managed to overtake the Rams. Still, O'Leary-Orange matched their energy and broke a personal record, setting a new career-high of 19 points in a game.

With a full house energizing the team and 37 seconds left, the fourth quarter was where the Rams finally found their groove. Ndiaye stole another loose Toronto ball at half court to slam it into the net, and after a jumper from Rhooms, the Rams had regained the lead until the end.

"We did well tonight, but we'll have a lot of tape to watch before this Saturday," head coach David DeAveiro said post-game. "We need to work on defence so we aren't putting ourselves in situations where we have to have a great fourth quarter to win a game."

The Rams will face the Varsity Blues again this Saturday at Toronto's Goldring Centre. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m., and you can tune in at OUA.tv.
