Rams dominate Lions for eighth straight win

TORONTO - The Rams women's basketball team concluded their double-header against the York Lions with yet another convincing win, taking Saturday afternoon's affair 88-47.

The Carly Clarke-led team now progresses to an 8-0 record and are now the only undefeated team in the OUA East division this season.

Rams forward Jama Bin-Edward dominated the stat sheet with a team high of 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in just 24 minutes of play.

In very similar fashion to Wednesday night's matchup at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, the Rams came flying out of the gates with their overwhelming defensive energy and three point shooting abilities.

With six steals and scoring seven points off turnovers, the Rams led 19-6 after the first quarter and forced the Lions to shoot just 2-12 from the field.

Once again, similarly to Wednesday night, the Lions had an answer for their first quarter troubles by winning the second quarter and being down just 37-27 at the half. Despite the Rams shooting less efficiently and getting largely out-rebounded in the quarter, they were able to keep their comfortable lead by forcing more York turnovers and frequently getting to the free throw line.

Bin-Edward led the game with 10 points and three steals in just 15 minutes in the first half.

The Rams essentially put the game to bed in the third quarter, exploding for 30 points and allowing just seven to bring it to a 67-36 score with 10 to play. Going 5-5 from three point range, the Rams put on a shooting clinic while taming the Lions offense on the other end.

It was more of the same in the final quarter, with the Rams outscoring the Lions and leaving no room for hope with their dominant play.

With a final score of 88-47, the Rams put up their highest point tally of their OUA season, and held their opponents to less than 50 points for the fifth time.

The Rams will be back in action on Wednesday, February 16 to take on the 0-5 Toronto Varsity Blues at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, where the Blues will be playing in their first OUA game since November 2021.
