Rams extend winning streak with another victory against Lions

TORONTO - Saturday night's 80-73 victory against the York Lions has the Rams men's basketball team on a five-game winning streak, and steadily climbing up the league ranks in time to clinch an OUA playoff spot next month.

York came out strong early on, quickly gaining a double-digit lead on a tired-looking Rams lineup in the first quarter. The Lions consistently blocked shots, and besides a three-pointer from forward Aaron Rhooms, the Rams spent most of the first defending their side of the court.

It didn't take long for the Rams to find their footing, however. Second quarter saw the team scoring double what the Lions did, gradually regaining confidence in their natural offensive talent while still finding every rebound and assist. At the half, the Rams led 36-35.

The second half saw much better basketball from both teams as they collected themselves and took their time on the court, putting up 19 points each in the third quarter.

The Rams dominated in the fourth. The team got into a groove, moving the ball and taking up space with ease. Compared to the Lions, whose energy levels had faltered from a frantic style of play earlier in the game, the Rams looked composed and in control to come out victorious at the end.

Top performances of the game came from veteran player Jaaden Lewis, who put up 15 points and 10 rebounds throughout the game, and point guard Ankit Choudhary, who scored 20 for the team.

The Rams will be returning back home to the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Wednesday night, where they will face off against the Toronto Varsity Blues. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. and you can purchase tickets online or stream the game live at OUA.tv. Tickets are available online, and health and safety protocols will be in place.
