Bollers overtime winner lift Bold over Lancers

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team potted three unanswered goals earlier this evening to stun the No. 7 ranked Windsor Lancers in a 3-2 overtime win.

Connor Bowie knotted the game up at two apiece in the third, while Kyle Bollers recorded his team-leading twelfth goal of the season during extra time to put a bow on the Bold's Saturday night win.

A penalty-plagued opening frame greeted the Bold in their roadside matchup with the Lancers earlier this evening. Windsor forward Barrett Dachyshyn opened up the initial frame with a cross-check on Patrick Fellows, picking up a major penalty as a result.

The Bold were unsuccessful in finding the twine in their three minutes of power play time early on, and would pay the price for their lack of conviction on the scoresheet as a result.

Windsor's Anthony Stefano would be the one delivering the blow to the blue and gold on the scoreboard, lighting the lamp for his team-leading sixth goal of the campaign. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. native's lonesome tally would also extend his point streak to 13 games and provide the Lancers with the early one-goal lead.

Both teams would play out the remainder of the period with peak physicality and prominent points still up for grabs as the Lancers' marched to the dressing room still leading the Bold 1-0.

The two sides traded goals in the second period, however, with Windsor beating the Bold to the punch once more. Forward Grant Spence would tuck his fifth of the season just below the crossbar to double his side's lead nine minutes into the middle stanza.

Moments later, TMU cut the Lancers two-goal lead in half following a blue line blast firing off the stick of Aaron Hyman. The third-year's first of the season could not have come at a more opportune time for the Bold, kick-starting the comeback for the visitors.

With goals in his last two outings, Bowie made sure to keep his scoring streak alive early in the third frame, burning a Windsor defender before netting the game-tying goal for his side.

Bollers would be sure to stick the nail in the coffin for TMU later in the night, taking a 2-on-1 pass from Zachary Shankar before uncorking a quick shot into the wide open Windsor cage to propel the Bold into first place.

The group will look to wrap up their season on a high note tomorrow afternoon when they face off against the Lancers once more. Puck drop is set for 4:00 p.m.
