KINGSTON, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team had their three-game winning streak snapped on Friday night, as they fell 77-67 to the host Queen's Gaels.
In what was a matchup of two of last season's top-three placing teams at the U SPORTS Final 8, it was the Gaels who prevailed to remain unbeaten in 2022-23. Queen's moved to 9-0, while TMU moved to 3-5.
Jayme Foreman led the Bold with 18 points after connecting on four of her eight looks from beyond-the-arc. Foreman finished 7-11 on the evening. Rachel Farwell and Kait Nichols joined Foreman in double-digits with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
It was a hot start for TMU, who got out to an early 8-0 lead, thanks to buckets from Farwell, Nichols and Haley Fedick, as well as a pair of free throws from Kaillie Hall, who returned to the lineup in Hamilton just two weeks ago. However, after the slow start, the Gaels turned it on and closed the quarter on a 26-8 run.
The Bold outscored the Gaels in the second, with Foreman pacing the offence with seven of the team's 22 in the quarter to cut the team's deficit to just five at recess.Â
But after Foreman trimmed the Queen's lead to three with a lay-in for the quarter's first points, the defending national bronze medallists stepped up. The Gaels connected on five of their 12 looks from the field in the quarter and went 8-9 from the free-throw line en route to closing the quarter on a 20-9 run after the Foreman bucket.
While the Bold, and specifically Haley Fedick, was able to narrow the Gaels advantage in the fourth, it was a lead they never went on to relinquish.

TMU is back in action on Saturday, as they take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa, Ont. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
