Choudhary hits go-ahead three, Bold upset No. 3 Gaels

KINGSTON, Ont. — Ankit Choudhary came through in the clutch, as his go-ahead three-pointer with two seconds left in the fourth quarter gave the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's basketball an 84-82 win over the Queen's Gaels on Friday night.

With just 25 seconds remaining, Gaels guard Luka Syllas went two-for-two from the line to give Queen's the one point lead.

Syllas' pair of makes from the line set the stage for Choudhary to play hero. The third-year point guard caught a pass from the reigning U SPORTS Rookie of the Year in Aaron Rhooms, before connecting from deep to stun the Gaels on their home floor.

TMU handed Queen's their first loss of the season. Entering the evening, seven of the Gaels eight games were double-digit wins. The Bold bucked that trend on Friday night in Kingston, as they improved to 4-4 with their first win over the Gaels since Feb. 16, 2019.

Five members of the Bold were in double digits, with Aaron Rooms and David Walker leading the way with 18 points apiece. Lincoln Rosebush had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Choudhary finished with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, to go along with five assists.

Cole Syllas led the Gaels with 31 points on 9-of-21 shooting.

After TMU held an eight-point lead after the first-quarter, Queen's worked their way back into the contest. The Gaels outscored the Bold in the next two quarters — including by six in the third to make it a one-point ball game entering the fourth. From there, TMU was able to close out the game in the final frame and escape Kingston with a well-timed win.

The Bold are back in action on Saturday in Oshawa, in what will be their final game of 2022. TMU will look to close their calendar year in fashion as they take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
