Bold fall short in season opener against Mustangs in London

LONDON, Ont. — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's volleyball team lost in straight sets to the Western Mustangs in their season opener on the road Friday evening.

Though they kept their errors to a minimum in the first set and jumped out to an early 8-7 lead, the Bold fell behind shortly thereafter and dropped the frame by four points.

In a tight second set, the Bold kept things close, holding Western in check until 21-21, when the Mustangs eventually pulled away and carried the frame 25-21.

TMU struggled in the final set. Despite 24 attack attempts, the team fell short in successful hits, hitting .292 to Western's .524 in the third. On the defensive end, the Bold failed to block any of the opposing attacks and the Mustangs took the set and, ultimately, the match.

After all was said and done, Jacob Walker notched 11 kills and 12 points in support of Alex King's four blocks and four digs. Elsewhere on the squad, Lucas Yang led the team with six digs and Nicholas Hudson and Saad Shaikh pitched in with five each.

The Bold will hit the court again Saturday night for a rematch on the road against the Mustangs. The first serve flies at 8 p.m.
