Bold sustain fourth quarter surge to defeat Lakers

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's basketball team nearly saw a 22 point lead evaporate, but held on to defeat Nipissing on Saturday night.

The Bold built a 68-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter as the game looked to be wrapped up, but Nipissing charged out of the gates in the final frame and closed the gap to as few as three points. The Lakers outscored TMU 25-6 through the first six and a half minutes through the fourth quarter, but the Bold were able to sustain the pressure long enough to then close the quarter on a 9-1 run to preserve the victory.

Rachel Farwell scored 31 points in the win and shot an impressive 6-for-9 from three point range to lead the Bold. Kaillie Hall had a strong game with 17 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.

TMU played a solid first quarter to hold a 24-14 edge after the opening ten minutes. The second quarter was more balanced between the squads, and the Bold headed to the locker room up 42-33.

The third quarter was TMU's best, scoring 26 points while holding the Lakers to just 13, which set the Bold up with a lead they needed nearly every point of.

Saturday's victory marked the third straight for the Bold as they begin to find their stride this season. The Bold wrap up the fall portion of their schedule next weekend when they head to Kingston to play Queen's on December 2, then to Oshawa to play Ontario Tech on December 3.
