Lakers sweep weekend series with second straight win over Bold

NORTH BAY, Ont. - For the second game in a row, the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team was shut out against the Nipissing Lakers at the Memorial Gardens — this time in a 5-0 loss.

This was the last matchup of the regular season between the two teams as Nipissing took the first two games, including the 3-0 win on Friday.

In the opening frame, Bold goaltender Lauren Griffin was the difference for the first half of the period. The netminder stopped the first 13 shots they faced, however, they could not sustain all of the Lakers' pressure.

With 6:38 left in the period, Malory Dominico sniped one behind Griffin to give the Lakers the advantage. One minute later, Lana Duriez also buried one to double the lead.

The latter stages of the first 20 minutes featured a parade to the box for Nipissing as the Bold were rewarded with extended power plays — including multiple five-on-three looks.

Nonetheless, Lakers netminder Chloe Marshall made key saves to maintain the lead heading into the intermission.

Despite the numerous penalties, Nipissing's offensive pressure continued into the second period. Maggie McKee and Allison Hayhurst both potted goals less than three minutes into the frame to extend the lead to four — with the former resulting in Alexia Stratos replacing Griffin in the Bold goal.

Shortly after, Maria Dominico scored another for the Lakers to make TMU's deficit five going into the third period.

The score then remained in the final frame as the Lakers were able to hold on and sweep the season series against the Bold.

TMU now prepare for a three-game home stand with the first coming against their crosstown rivals in the York Lions next Friday. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
