Game Recap: Hockey (W) | | Andrea Langford

Slow start plagues Bold in high scoring affair

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold women's hockey team fell behind early on Saturday and despite scoring four goals, was unable to complete the comeback against Ontario Tech.

The Ridgebacks scored just 1:27 into the game and doubled down just seven seconds later. Before the Bold could find their rhythm they were already down 2-0.

The home side tacked on a third goal before the midway point of the period, but then the momentum began to shift. Bold defender Tori Butler stripped the puck off a Ridgeback in the neutral zone and entered the attacking zone on a 2-on-1 with Britni Yammine. Butler's initial shot was stopped, but Yammine converted the rebound for her first OUA tally.

The teams headed to the first intermission with the 3-1 score line.

TMU began the second on the power play and was able to generate puck possession and offensive pressure. The hard work paid off when Gaby Gareau potted her first career goal to cut the deficit to 3-2. Less than three minutes later, a weird bounce went the Bold's way and captain Madison Lalonde was credited with the goal to even the score at 3-3.

Ontario Tech responded with back-to-back goals to reclaim the lead and go ahead 5-3 after 40 minutes.

Eight minutes into the final frame, Emily Baxter scored her first of the season to get the Bold back within striking distance but they couldn't find an equalizer. The Ridgebacks tacked on an empty net goal to make the final score line 6-4.

Despite the loss, the Bold look like they're coming into their own offensively, putting up nine goals in their last three games.

Next up for TMU is a road trip to North Bay for a two-game set against the Nipissing Lakers starting on Friday evening.
