Early and often offence lead Bold over Varsity Blues

TORONTO - The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's hockey team ran riot in Varsity Arena earlier this evening, effortlessly defeating the Toronto Varsity Blues 6-1 in a contest that held offensive domination in the highest regard.

Kyle Bollers and Patrick Fellows led the attack for the Bold, putting up a trio of goals and assists, respectively. First-year goaltender Kai Edmonds allowed just a single shot to squeak by, stopping 26 in the group's second victory of the year.

"This is the way we need to play in order to be successful. We did that to a 'T' today," said head coach of the Bold, Johnny Duco, following the win.

Second-year versatility man Elijah Roberts put the goal parade into gear with a piercing shot that flew past the glove of goaltender Rayce Ramsay. Roberts' opener would be matched by his teammate and fellow second-year Kyle Bollers just minutes later.

After netting a pair of goals against York in Friday's season opener, Bollers made sure his name touched the scoresheet once more after finishing off a perfectly placed aerial pass from linemate Patrick Fellows to double the team's lead.

Duco believes there was no "magic sauce" to the team's productive opening frame against the Blues, crediting much of the success to the execution of what he described as "simple hockey".

Joe Rupoli and Jesse Barwell added insurance markers to close out the frame, with the latter uncorking a shot just below the crossbar to cap off a dominant outing for the Bold.

A trip to the dressing room didn't falter Duco's side in terms of offence, with the group's leading goal scorer in Bollers sniffing out his second tally of the evening just four minutes into the second frame to extend TMU's lead even further.

Between the pipes, goaltender Edmonds continued to shine, making numerous post-to-post stops to keep a frustrated Blues side in check. Despite letting in a goal midway through the frame, Edmonds would provide the Bold with stability and comfort the rest of the way.

Following the match, Edmonds humorously sided with his dominant outing by saying: "I think I played pretty good tonight."

With the Blues inching further away with every passing minute, Bollers and the Bold tacked on one final goal to sink the dagger into the home side. On one knee, Bollers smashed the puck into the back of the Blues goal to make the score 6-1 in favour of the Bold and all but secure the group's second victory on the year.

"He's at the top of his game right now," said Duco following Bollers' most recent offensive surge.

The Bold will look to keep their winning streak intact next Thursday during their home opener in a rematch against Toronto. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m.
