TORONTO - The Rams women's soccer team is looking to bring a win home at their home opener game this Saturday against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
The team, whose record was 5-6-3 in 2019, are coming off of last weekend's 1-0 loss against Toronto, who went 7-4-3 in 2019 and earned a bronze medal at the U SPORTS championship that year.
For almost half the women on the 2021 roster, this will be their first home opener as a Ram, and the first home game in almost two years for the women's soccer team.
"We've had a lot of roster changes," head coach Natalie Bukovec said last weekend, after the team had wrapped up at Varsity Stadium. "Today was a good opportunity for our younger players to play as well."
The Sept. 25 game saw some newer faces out on the pitch, including Rams forward Shea Jeffery-Novak, who took two shots against Toronto. Jeffery-Novak is in her second year with the Rams but first in action on the pitch. She joined the team in 2020, after already studying arts & contemporary studies for two years, amid Ontario University Athletics (OUA)'s cancelled season due to COVID-19.
Bukovec says fans are likely to see the same personnel from last game playing again this weekend.
Support the Rams as they set out to even the season-opening series against Toronto at Downsview Park on Saturday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Fans attending the game are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and/or PPE to donate to the RSU Good Food Centre. Health screening and entry policies will be enforced at Downsview Park.
