Rams top Ridgebacks for second time to sweep season series

OSHAWA, Ont. - The No. 8 Rams women's basketball team took down the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday night for the second time this week as they progressed to a perfect 5-0 record this season.

It was not the usual scorers who led the Rams in Oshawa, as rookie guard Kaillie Hall scored a game-high of 18 points off the bench. Rams centre Eleanor Jones also put up 11 points, making it her season-high.

To begin Saturday night's matchup, both teams seemed to be far more familiar with one another compared to Wednesday, leading to a tougher defensive game and a slow start on the scoreboard. Halfway through the first quarter, the Rams only led 4-2. The opening quarter ended with the Rams leading 11-6 thanks to a pair of Rachel Farwell layups.

The second quarter was quiet for the most part as well, with the exception of the final two minutes before halftime where the Rams went on an 8-0 run to make it 32-15 at the half.

The third quarter was easily the most interesting of the game, as the Ridgebacks went on a 13-1 run to bring it to 35-29 for the Rams. Immediately after, the Rams answered with an 8-0 run of their own, and finally holding onto a 45-31 lead after 30 minutes of play.

Finally, the Rams held onto their lead comfortably in the final quarter, taking the 61-49 win in Oshawa.

Both on paper and in-person, tonight was very much a team-effort win for the Rams. Aside from Hall and Jones putting up a combined 29 points, Farwell and Dodig also provided needed scoring and defensive intensity.

Rams two-time OUA All-Star Jama Bin-Edward also made her first appearance of the season tonight, returning from an injury that has kept her out since January 2020. The forward tallied two points and one rebound in 12 minutes.

The No. 8 Rams will be back on December 4th at the Mattamy Athletic Centre to play their final game of the semester against the Queen's Gaels.
