Rams prepare for trip to North Bay to face Lakers

TORONTO - The 1-0 Rams women's basketball team will be heading on the road to North Bay this weekend to take on the 0-2 Nipissing Lakers.

The Rams opened their campaign with a tight 68-65 comeback win over the Queen's Gaels, climbing back from a seven point deficit with 6:15 remaining in the game. Rams guard Mikaela Dodig led the team with 25 points in her OUA debut, scoring the last six points for her team on top of a pair of clutch defensive plays down the stretch.

Despite only playing one OUA game this season, the Rams have looked strong so far when also looking at their preseason campaign and still are yet to lose a game of any sort in 2021.

The Nipissing Lakers started their OUA season on the road against the Carleton Ravens, losing their first match 80-49 this past Friday and losing 70-42 on Saturday.

Despite the Ravens convincingly winning both affairs, the Lakers have had 12 different players on the squad score points so far this season, showcasing that they do not have an isolation-type solo offence.

If the Rams were to pay particular attention to one player, however, it would likely be second-year forward Megan McCarter, who has scored a team-high of 23 points in the Lakers' first two games. With the Rams defensively being at their strongest at the guard position, the Lakers could look to use McCarter in the paint to their advantage.

For the Rams, in addition to Dodig, forward Rachel Farwell had a strong scoring night against the Gaels (16 points, five rebounds) and is expected to be a reliable scorer this season, so the Lakers will surely be on the lookout for her.

The Rams and Lakers tip-off on Friday, November 12 at 6 p.m and Saturday, November 13 at 2 p.m. Both games will be available to stream on OUA.tv.
