Rams seek out first win on road trip to face Nipissing

TORONTO - The Rams men's basketball team will be seeking their first win of the season this Friday as they head up to North Bay to face the Nipissing Lakers.

While they've learned to maximize the team's shooting strengths on the court, the Rams are still finding their groove on the defensive end. The need for improvement was reflected in last weekend's losses when they were swept by the Queen's Gaels, giving the team an 0-2 start to the year.

"We'll be focusing on passing and not giving up easy buckets in the paint this week before heading up to Nipissing," head coach David DeAveiro said.

In the last seven years, the Rams have never lost against the Lakers, carrying a nine-game winning streak over Nipissing.

And ironically, it's the team's heavy offence and shooting abilities that will likely give them the leg-up this weekend as they attempt to extend the school's winning record.

While the season is only one week in, the Rams are ranked fifth in the OUA in scoring and field goal percentage, averaging 90.5 points per game to Nipissing's 14th place with 47.5.

The team also ranks fifth and third in the league in field goal and 3-point percentages (.469 and .377), while Nipissing ranks 16th and 15th, respectively.

You can watch the Rams on OUA.tv this Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. from North Bay.
